Problem

A heat-treating company located in Michigan has used water-based wash and rust preventative chemistries from a large chemical manufacturer for the past 15 years. During this time, residue and rust problems have been accepted as status quo. Therefore, the heat-treating company contacted the chemical manufacturer to find a solution to this problem. However, the chemical manufacturer did not consider the heat-treater worth much attention, although they purchased four 55-gallon drums of chemistry each month.

Solution

The heat-treater contacted ZERUST® asking if they had the capability to custom formulate wash and rust preventatives to address the corrosion and residue problems they’ve been experiencing. ZERUST® Chemical Group staff visited the heat-treating facility to complete a process map and collect samples of the wash and rust preventative chemistries to bring back to the lab for comprehensive testing. Results

Results from a live trial with the ZERUST’s custom AxxaWash™ water-based parts cleaner products at the heat-treater’s facility demonstrated an improvement over the incumbent chemistry. Representatives from the-heat treater commented that they had never seen parts so clean. An extended trial to satisfy the end-user’s PPAP requirements is pending.

Water-based preservation cleaner
